The author states in his introduction that he began research for this book after reading a study by Dr. Franz Boas on the "Tsimshian Mythology, based on the texts of Henry W. Tate". "This work remains to date the outstanding and practically the only authority on the habits, culture and legends of this particular people of the Nass River Valley. The story itself is based on the myths of the Haida, Tlingit, and the Tsimshian tribes of British Columbia, on Prince Charlotte Island and the adjacent mainland." First Edition.
