Philadelphia: W. S. & A. Martien, (1864).. (1864).. Very good. - sc A 4-1/8 inch high by 2-1/2 inch wide advertising card illustrated with an engraved portrait of General Burnside by W. S. & A. Martien of Philadelphia. The oval image depicts Civil War General Burnside in uniform from the chest up. His balding head framed by his heavy sideburns and mustache. Text printed on the verso advertises schoolbooks offered by a bookseller for the 1864 school year "Sidney S. Rider & Bro. / Booksellers, / No. 17 Westminster Street, / will sell / School Books of All Kinds, / To Scholars, at the / lowest wholesale prices, / For the Term commencing Monday, Sept. 12, 1864". The card is slightly soiled with minor creases to the corners. The boldly printed text on the verso shows through on the recto. Very good.
