Colonel Barney Oldfield writes from Litton Industries where the letterhead identifies him as "Director, Special Missions and Projects, Corporate Public Relations". The lengthy letter is addressed to Harold Martin of the Saturday Evening Post at the Atlanta Constitution. He proposes the idea of a Post profile of Mrs. Jayne B. Spain [whose company has recently merged with Litton Industries]. He describes her as a remarkable woman who serves as "Chairman of the President's Committee for Employment of the Handicapped", internationally known and respected for her involvement in recruiting and providing resources for blind people and other individuals with disabilities around the world. "In Poland, the Deputy Premier of the USSR called on her, personally; in Algiers, Ben Bella would talk to her, when he was not interested in talking to the American ambassador, and she was invited by the people in the Casbah to come alone to visit them (which she did) and they laid the welcome mat out for her because of what she did for their blind, etc. in like adventures in many other countries..."

Barney Oldfield was born and educated in Nebraska. He was a newspaper reporter and was a press aide to General Dwight D. Eisenhower during World War II. After the war, he went to Hollywood where he worked as a publicist for Warner Brothers and as press agent for such stars as Errol Flynn, Ronald Reagan and Elizabeth Taylor. Subsequently he spent three decades in corporate public relations for Litton Industries and other companies.
