Very good. - The secretary's letter fills one side of a light gray sheet of "Hellenic Renaissance" letterhead, approximately 8-1/2 inches high by 6-5/8 inches wide. Signed "Beatrix Knox", Secretary to Mr. Kanellos. Together with the program for a December 27 performance by Kanellos and his company at Carnegie Hall, New York City. The program consists of a sheet of paper folded once to form four pages, each 9-1/2 inches high by 5-5/8 inches wide, with a black-and-white illustration of two Greek dancers on the cover. The program information on the inner sides is surrounded by a pictorial border of 15 black-and-white illustrations of the dancers performing. On the 4th side are quotes from reviews incorporated into an image of a Greek vase. The letter & program have been folded twice for mailing. The top left corner of the letter is creased with a paper-clip mark and the date answered has been stamped above the text. The same paper clip has left a mark to the top left corner of each page of the program with a stain to the last page. Very good.
According to the program "The Kanellos Ballet Hellenique has for its purpose the reviving of the Classic Greek Dance and Dramatique pantomime. Under the guidance of M. Kanellos, the ballet will present from the great dramas of Greek Classic literature those scenes and episodes best known the world over and from modern Greece; it will present the simple dances of the shepherds and peasants with their peculiar native charm."
The secretary's letter asks if Pond would be interested in presenting the company's performances. She also informs him about a society which is being formed, of which Kanellos will be director. The society will take over publication of the only Greek- English art magazine in America, as well as promoting the work of Kanellos.
Vassos Kanellos is listed in the program as Premier Danseur Etoile and Directeur Choreographique from the Royal Theatre of Athens. His choreography was inspired by ancient Greek drama and art and by the style of Isadora Duncan. Together with his wife Tanagra, Kanellos toured widely in Europe and the U.S. In the Carnegie Hall performance the dancers accompanying him are Mlle. Thalia Zanou and Mlle. Lubovska.
