- Small quarto, 8 inches high by 6-1/4 inches wide. Burgundy boards backed with a green cloth spine, titled in gilt on the spine. The covers are bumped and heavily rubbed with wear to the corners. The cloth is split along the bottom of the front joint.  leaf, pages -48,  preliminary leaves, followed by 64 unnumbered leaves, and 9 leaves numbered lxv-lxxiii and  leaf. The book is illustrated with a tipped in photographic portrait of Thomas Linacre, a woodcut decorated frame on the title page, handsome woodcut decorated initials, a superb woodcut pictorial facsimile title page, and a woodcut facsimile of the original printer's device at the rear. The front hinge is cracked and the endpapers and pastedowns are slightly foxed with minor chipping to the front edge of the front endpaper. An internally attractive book.
A rare facsimile of Thomas Linacre's 1521 translation into Latin of Galen's "Pergamensis de Temperamentis....", printed in a limited edition of 250 numbered copies with an introduction by Joseph Frank Payne.
This is copy number 95 of 250 copies, so stated in pencil (most probably by the publisher) on the front endpaper.
This copy collates with that at the University of Glasgow.
The tipped-in frontispiece is a photograph of the engraved portrait of Thomas Linacre in Pettigrew's medical portrait gallery.
According to the Publisher's note the "present reproduction of Linacre's translation of two treatises by Galen is issued as a specimen of early typography, being the sixth in order of the seven books printed by John Siberch, the first Cambridge printer, in 1521....The books printed by Siberch are all very scarce."
