- Cream-colored card, 2-5/8 inches high by 4-1/2 inches wide, signed in black ink "H. B. Payne". The card is very slightly bumped with its edges slightly darkened. Very good. Henry B. Payne [1810-1896] was an American politician who moved from New York to Ohio in 1833 and quickly established himself as a local leader in Democratic politics. He was elected to one term in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1874 and ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential election in 1880.
